BEUC re-elects Dutchman Arnold Koopmans for President

At the occasion of BEUC’s General Assembly this 19 May, Arnold Koopmans from Dutch consumer group Consumentenbond was re-elected President of the European Consumer Organisation (BEUC) for a four-year term. Rocío Concha from British consumer group Which? was elected Vice-President.

Arnold Koopmans commented on his election:

“I am honoured that BEUC’s General Assembly has renewed its confidence and entrusted me with the mission to keep BEUC’s voice strong and respected. I am looking forward to continuing my close and fruitful cooperation with all BEUC members and the Secretariat. 

“Since I was first elected three years ago, the political landscape has changed considerably. I am determined to help BEUC remain relevant so consumers from all over Europe are well protected, whether it is when they travel, browse online, eat, pay their electricity bills or medicines.”

About Arnold Koopmans: He is an independent lawyer who works for the Dutch consumer association Consumentenbond, with extensive experience as chairman of associations and committees, including the Consumer Affairs Committee of the Confederation of Netherlands Industry and Employers (VNO-NCW). In addition, Arnold sits in the advisory committee on consumer legislation and consumer affairs for the Dutch government. He was also for many years board member of the Dutch institute for Consumer Disputes and is chairman of two distributors’ associations.

About Rocío Concha: Rocío has been a member of the BEUC Executive since 2020. She is Director of Policy and Advocacy and Chief Economist at Which? with direct responsibility for policy, external affairs, campaign and strategic insight teams.  Rocio has over 20 years’ experience in public policy and strategic roles spanning the public, charity and private sectors.  Rocio is a Board member of Consumers International and a Non-Executive board member at the Ada Lovelace Institute.

The General Assembly also renewed BEUC’s Executive board for four years.
